I have a Hamilton 992 watch from 1910 serial # 773384 that I received from my father when graduating high school as sort of an intro into watches. Recently I took more of an interest in the watch, and I can't seem to ID the dial no matter how many images Ive looked at. The things that don't seem to fit are the "Hamilton" in script, and the minute indicators changing angle as they roam around the face, notice the upside down "30". It comes in a Keystone "Victory" case and was most likely originally made as just the clock mechanism. If anyone knows what type of dial this is it would be great to know.
Thanks

Your watches dial has the appropriate script "Hamilton" used from about 1903-1918. The exact style number of your dial is something the "experts" will have to post.
There is a link to a list of Hamilton topics at the top of this page.

I don't know what the style is called but I went to my dial drawer to check my loose Hammie dials. I have two examples of this very dial one with 4 feet and one with 3, along with a single sunk 3 foot version. I also have two different 16s Roman Numeral 4 footers with the same upside down 30. I have a couple of later block letter 16s dials which seem to have the 30 right side up. I have similar 18 size script dials with the 30 both upside down and right side up.
I have really never taken note of this before. I have no idea why or when they changed from upside down to rightside up.
Maybe my friend Rhett knows?

the 1909 hamilton material catalog shows a similar dial...
part number 436
the description indicates 'heavy arabic'
double sunk, script hamilton signature, the 30 is upside down in the cut in the catalog, but no inidcation if the outer 5 minute track is red (b&w image)
they were $30.00 per dozen :D
i had not noticed 'right side up' 30 on script signature dials . how bout an image? were the adjacent numerals also rotated?
the block signature dials seem to show in the timebooks about 1919 or so
by the way... the case on your watch is later than the movement... this movement would have been cased in a long pendant case.
Seemingly the same dial is on serial number 710706, a grade No. 993, Jones-Horan auction of 4/3/04, Lot No. 94 (http://www.jones-horan.com/images/0402/jl357_c.jpg).

Below is the No. 436 dial in 3 different configurations,
(upper left), 30 seconds, upside-down (1909), script style
(upper right), 30 seconds, right-side up (1925), script style
(bottom), 30 seconds, right-side up (1926), block style
It appears the up-side down 30 seconds was only available in the early years of production.
