At least I was told it was a waltham, the ser no. is 96891, on the back of the works on the large gear it says EQUITY watch co. Boston 7 jewels, on the face of the watch it says Hulse Bros. I ran the ser. no. it came back Model: 1857 mfg. between 1/1/1864 end: 1/3/1864 must have been a short run, Name:Wm Ellery, Material: A, Grade: P.S.B., Wm.E. ,Size: 18, Plate FP, Plate: NL, Jewelling: 4 Holes, Jewels: 7-11 Balance:Steel Bal:Gold-Steel, Style: KW, Style: NL. the KW means Key Wound, but there is no Place to put a key in the back of the movement, it is a open face watch, what is this something someone thrown together? I am new at collecting old pocket watches just starting as a matter of fact. It seems from what Ive read that something is amess here, Oh on the back cover it says Equity Watch Co. Silverode and then the case no. 970492. I need to know what I have here,Any help appreciated. Dave

Posting a picture would help, I think you are missing a number in the serial number, the equity was not made in the 1857 grade, I believe that this is a 16 1/2 size model made much later if it has Equity on the winding wheel. the case with no keyhole is a giveaway that this is a stem wind watch.

Told you I was new at this, all I have right now is a picture, I think I was trying to read the ser. no. upside down. From another point of view it is ser. no. 158964, which comes back as a model 1861 size 10 ladies but still no mention of Equity. Here is a picture of the back of the movement if I can figure out how to post it. Thanks Dave

It is a Equity pocket watch, sz 17.Was produced by Waltham, most likely in the early 1900,s.

Waltham's equity line was produced as an "unbranded" low cost alternative to try to compete with cheaper dollar watches. The serial numbers are not in the Waltham sequence of numbers.
The basic plate shapes were not used much on other Waltham lines, but do show up on Traveler and some export models. The plate design was also used for the watches Waltham made for the E. Howard Watch Co. division of the Keystone Watch Case Co.
This would be a good note for the wiki. :)

Thanks for the info, any ballpark on what would be a fair price for a watch like this in good condition? Guess I need to read up on these things before buying. LOL, again thanks for the help. Dave:confused:
