What were the standards for adjustment at Waltham and were they different for top grades? I am sure this is large subject since they made so many grades for a long time.

The Elgin and some Hamilton standards have been [ublished but I do not recall having seen any for Waltham. Since several Walthams went to teh UK to compete in the Kew Observatory trials, and beat some very expensive English watches there is no doubt that Waltham could do this very well but I have no ide what the standard adjustment standards were.

I have never seen standards for Waltham. I have only seen standards for Hamilton and for WWII military watches.

Using Hamilton as a reference, it is clear there were different standards for different grades and for different times. Watches sent for trials were individually adjusted to the limits of their abilities for bragging rights. They would have adjusted several watches to the limits of the watch and the adjuster and sent the best off for the trial.

I think that the best source of information on watch timing standards is in Marvin Whitney's book "Military Timepieces".
