Hello! My father has a Waltham pocket watch, 14K gold, either late 19th or early 20th century. No chain. It says "Guaranteed to Assay, 14K" and has a serial # of 6809931. On the mechanism, it says 11347398. It has a double case, and has an engraving of a dove flying, with "plant life" surroudning it on the cover and a heart chield in the center. It is not engraved/initialed. Somewhere on the watch it has a key-shaped design with "BMC Company" on it. He is trying to sell it and get best offer. Someone offered him $2-300 for it but he thinks it might be worth more. Can someone help me and give me any ideas on how much it might be worth? Unfortunately I have no pictures of it at this time. Thanks for any help you could give me.

jw,

There are some things we can tell you about the Waltham. The case should be solid 14 karat gold, based on the quality marking you mentioned. The serial number you list is shown in the "grey book" by Roy Ehrhardt as a 12-size, 1894 model, grade 210, 7-jewels, in an open faced case. You mention a "double case" which might imply a hunter style case, so there might be some confusion there, The serial number would seem to date it around 1902. Now! What are we NOT able to tell you? Value! When you registered to use this MB, you agreed to the terms of use of the MB which stipulates that we don't discuss values. That also shows in the header at the top of this page. But, now that you know what you have, you might want to check out ebay to find out what similar watches actually sell for.

Doug
