Hi Joe,
Welcome to the NAWCC Pocket Watch discussion board. Please consider joining our organization to enrich your watch or clock knowledge.

Your pocket watch was dropped or buried by someone around 1930-50's. It is a "Dollar Watch" meaning that it retailed for $1 or in that price range.

The E.Ingraham Co. was born in 1913. They produced around 65 million watches until 1968.
You can do a Google or similar search for more information. If the watch was in mint condition it would only be considered as sentimental value. We can't give appraisals or quote value on this board.

JoeMi,

In 1947, a Westclox Dax pocket watch, in the same league as your Ingraham, sold in Canada for $ 4.75. That's inflation for you. Watches of this quality were sold for about $ 1.00 early in the 20th century.

Joe,
The 57 is for the year it was made.

Well, as others have indicated, this is not really a treasure, as such, but it is an interesting way to run across a pocket watch. As others have indicated, it is not from the 1800s, so you might want to re-evaluate your assessment of the grounds on which it was found (and any contemporaneous finds).

My mom and dad have metal detectors, but I think they stopped using them a few years ago. I never caught the bug myself, but can certainly understand the interest. Good luck on future hunts.
