I have a Hamilton Pocket Watch, and there is an inscription on the inside of the back case and I was wondering if anybody might recognize these names. I am assuming they are employees at Hamilton, but I am not sure. What would be my first step in researching this information?

It reads: "Presented to William Stromberg for Faithful Services by Sol Bergman, April 3-1920".

Also, on the back case there is the initials "WS".

I appreciate any information you can provide to me!

Thank you,

I don't think there is any reason, from what you've said, to believe this watch was given to a Hamilton employee. These kinds of watches were bought by every company and given to retiring employees, a tradition I wish would come back!

Kim,
This may be of some help. There was a "Sol Bergman Jewelry Company" that began business in 1888 in Omaha, Neb.

In 1892 they were located at Granite Block, 318 South Fifteenth Street, Omaha, Neb.

There is real good possibility that since William Stromberg was an employee of Mr. Bergman and being in the jewelry business, why not give your long term employee a nice watch.

My 2 cents worth.
