I recently acquired a fascinating early E. Howard Watch. The watch is serial #31454 described as a Gilt series IV 15 jewels. Dial is signed E. Howard & Co patent Feb 4th, 1868. The watch is also key wind and key set from the back.
Most interesting to me is the Charles E. Hale case #4955 which shows the original C.E.H. & Co. hallmark "over-struck" with an unusual oval shaped hallmark that reads warranted Coin Silver, the initials C.E.H. and Co. running through the center of this second hallmark. At first, I thought the over-struck hallmark was a C.E.H. forgery. However the original C.E.H. & co. Hallmark is visible underneath.

Please let me know anything you can about the watch and unusual C.E.H. over-struck hallmark?
