What does this symbol mean? Picture included

Hello!

This symbol is on the inside of the back case of a pocket watch. Does anyone know what it means? I can't seem to find it in any of my books.

I believe that its a trade mark of the Kenosha Watch Case Co., a watch case company in business around 1891.

How would I go about identifying what the case is made of? There are no other markings besides the one in the picture that I posted (besides jeweler's marks). The reason I am asking is because the color is different than any other one I have seen. I am not sure if it is some type of silver, or what. It looks painted, but I'm not sure.
