And why are there so many on the used market? I see them ALL of the time on ebay. I am beginning my foray into watch repair, but have yet to see what these are for.

Thanks in advance for this basic question

A great book on the subject is "Staking Tools & How to Use Them - K & D Manufacturing Corporation" It is a reprint of book originally published by one of the best known manufacturers of staking sets. You can find it at most bookstores that specialize in horological books.

A staking tool is VERY usefull - all the uses mentioned above, and many more.

Spending $75 dollars or more on ebay should get you a real nice K&D inverto set with a full assortment of 100 or so stakes and will be a good friend to have around.

Like all watchmaking tools (all tools in general for that matter), buying the best you can afford is the best way to go.

There are two I see on ebay at the moment that look pretty decent - #2604973049 and #2604122340

Hello all:

I purchased a CE Marshall inverto staking set with 136 punches and 38 stumps on e-bay a while back.

The name I hear most is K&D, but I do hear Moseley and CE Marshall as well.

Which is a better quality? Is there a difference, or did K&D simply corner the market at the peak of the trade?
