To 'guychampeau' and other Illinois fans:

Sometimes the Illinois Watch Co. staff went to extremes to "create" new Private Labels to put on their watches. This one, marked "ak-sar-ben", represents one end of the spectrum. Those in the know will quickly recognize that this PL represents "Nebraska" spelled backwards!

I wonder who will be the first to find a watch marked "si-on-illi"???

I wasn't in the know, and that didn't occur to me!

Do I understand correctly from your post that the name "ak-sar-ben" was an in-house label and not a marketing name contracted for by a retailer?
