There are two Wm. Ellery Civil War pocket watches in my collection. The first one is SN 94445, and the second one is SN 101327. Each of these two Civil War movements is in an 18S silver hunter case, both with an eagle stamping. Each case is also stamped with the indication that the cases were made by the American Watch Company. The silver hunter case for Wm. Ellery SN 94445 is stamped, "Am. Watch Co.", and the silver case for Wm. Ellery SN 101327 is stamped, "AWCo."
Can anyone elaborate on the differences in these two American Watch Co. Civil War Eagle Cases, and their respective stamping variations? Do any period records exist that pertain to the American Watch Company's use of the Eagle case stampings? Here are photos of each of the two silver hunter case stampings, along with a photo of each of the two American Watch Company Wm. Ellery movements:

In light of the fact that there have been no responses to my question about American Watch Co. eagle cases, made during the Civil War years, I am adding a few more specific questions for MB readers to consider.
Specifically, some of the variations that I would like to learn more about, are, 1) examples of the different eagle designs/stampings used on the American Watch Co. silver cases made during the Civil War years, 2) the difference in the use of, "Am Watch Co" -vs- "AWCO" stamped above the eagle (for example, does this denote one being earlier than the other?), and, 3) why some cases were stamped with serial numbers that have a double letter preceding the number, such as my pictured case serial number, "AA36".
Perhaps there has been a previous MB posting on this topic, that someone could just link me up with. I've done a MB "search", but have found nothing that answers my questions. Maybe I've overlooked something that someone could point me toward...? Thanks!

Paul,
Thank you for sharing the photos of some very interesting AWCo. Eagle Cases. It's too bad that records weren't kept by case makers, including the American Watch Co.'s case making endeavors. Just consider what a wealth of valuable information we might have, if comprehensive records existed for serial numbered pocket watch cases, at the same level as the major manufacturers' records of pocket watch movement serial numbers and years of manufacture!
