Carter Harris has been appointed Curator of the National Watch and Clock
Museum. Mr. Harris brings not only a rich technical background, but also
has previous experience as conservator/curator at our institution.
Carter Harris was employed by the NAWCC Museum from August 1980 to July 13,
1984 first as conservator and then as curator. During his tenure he not
only cared for the collection and assisted visitors, but also mounted
several exhibitions including an extensive exhibit of Hew Hampshire's
clocks.
Prior to coming to the NAWCC, Mr. Harris worked in the clock shop at
Colonial Williamsburg and later served as an apprentice to John C. Losch,
master clockmaker, of Holliston, Massachusetts. Mr. Harris received a BA in
History at Keene State College, Keene, New Hampshire. He has published a
compilation of 18th century clock and watchmaker's advertisements appearing
in American newspapers. Mr. Harris is a Fellow of the National Association
of Watch and Clock Collectors.
