Do many Waltham private labels appear among early Mod 57 Walthams,1860s? Are there any lists of private labels from that era?

Thanks, Keith 0129144

Hello Keith,

Waltham did make one cheaper grade labelled
as Home Watch Co. , Boston in early period.
Serial numbers do not correspond to Waltham
number sequence.

It might have made others; I would have to
check my Waltham information, or others
might also respond.

I'm sure there were some but, I believe the private label business didn't pick up until a bit later. Earhardt's book on Waltham and the Earhardt/Meggers "Beginning to end"book contain lists of private labels that appreared on Walthams but I don't know of a segregated list that only has names from '57s. If you have such a watch and look up the name in the "Beginning" book, you might find if the name has been reported on a '57 before. I believe that a private label search ability will eventually be available on the Waltham serial no's project
on Tom McIntyre's site(if it isn't already).
I'd bet you'll get some good answer's to your post when the hot shots get back from N.C..

I am pretty sure I saw a model 57 PL on Ebay a few weeks ago. I didn't study it though, and it is possible it was a Swiss fake, but it looked pretty real in the pictures.

in time I shall list some for the readers, and maybe even a few pictures.

(BTW, there was a rather unusually signed one [Indiana] on a 59 model Waltham last month in an auction.)
