Those of you who follow my writings have heard me refer to an authority who worked for Hamilton for many years. Gordon Minnich joined Hamilton in 1948. He started in production with balance work and eventually moved up to the prestigious job of hairspring work. When Hamilton stopped production in 1970, he continued in their repair facility, still vibrating, truing and adjusting hairsprings. He retired from Hamilton in the early 1990s.

He was a volunteer at the NAWCC Library and Research Center, organizing old Hamilton material. He was so valuable, because he knew what he was looking at. He was also the one we all went to in order to find out how Hamilton did anything. He also had dozens of great stories that took place in Hamilton. Finally he had the most fantastic smile.

We lost Gordon yesterday. We lost a great resource and a great friend.

Don,

I would be willing to chip in on a plaque that can be hung in the NAWCC's hall of fame or their equivilent.

If you have any other ideas on a way to memorialize Mr Minnich you can count me in. Think about it, there will never ever be anyone with Gordons working knowledge.

I am sorry to hear this, I never met Mr. Minnich but it sounds like he was a terrific and caring person and also a great asset to our hobby.

Thank you for posting Don, and my condolences to Mr. Minich's friends and family.

I heard the sad news this past Thursday at the opening of the new Presidents' watch exhibit.
I had the pleasure of long conversations with Gordon at Chapter One meetings and had the opportunity of sitting next to him at the last meeting's luncheon. He will be missed.:(

Sorry to hear about it Don. Seems as though we lose more and more of the people who had first hand knowledge every day. Thanks for the update.
