Hey all;
Just wondering what's the big todo about Omegas.
I was watching old James Bond movie. Forget which one. Lady asked if he had a Rolex and he said no a Omega. She acknowledged his great taste.
Anyway, Hollywood aside, I went to ebay and seen em. Man -expensive. Wondering what is the reason for Omega love.

Do you own one? If you did, you wouldn't be asking the question. If I had to choose I would take a high caliber Omega over a rolex any day.

I have an early 1950s Omega Automatic and a contemporary Seamaster Aqua Terra with the co-axial escapement. They are beautifully finished and put together watches with a pedigree that goes back to 1848. Expensive yes, and unfortunately will become more so as the dollar continues to plunge and Omega corporate policy moves the brand more upscale.

Ron in PA,
RJ might like to know that not only does the pedigree of Omega go back to
1848, some of those watches from Brandt & Sons are still running and in
great mechanical and cosmetic condition. I have a Jura it keeps accurate
time.

Whats the big to-do?
I think the appealing thing about Omega is that it is so much fun to collect.
Why? Because they were eclectic, experimental, prolilfic and for the most part, quality oriented.
Lots of neat stuff to collect.
And they go way further back than 1948 right?

Thanks all;
I guess it's one of those things that I just have to experience/examine for myself.
Not that you all didn't do a great job explaining it. I get the feeling it's just one of those things are easier to see/experience then to explain.

RJ, I think if you find a good quality vintage omega and pick it up, examine it and even wear it for awhile, you will notice that they are just very nice well made timepieces. don't get me wrong, i have many other brands in my collection. some are quite cheap as far as price but quite good as to the quality. I am not saying rolexes are junk I am just saying for the price difference you are getting a lot more watch for your money with an omega.
