Hi all..
Trying to identify this one:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Thryah/Pocket%20Watches/cpbarnesmovement.jpg

Movement is marked:
C.P. Barnes and Bro.
178804
Pat. Pinion
Louisville, KY

I can't find any references anywhere, so figured I'd ask the experts.. Any and all info appreciated...
Thanks in advance

Harold:

It looks like a Hampden model 2 (called Series II on page 249 of the 2007 edition of the Complete Price Guide to Watches, No. 27). In fact, the Gold Book lists a C.P. Barnes & Bro., Louisville, KY marked movement on page 231, describing it as 18S-11J-HG1K-U-"57" (a Hampden watch))

Thanks Kent... appreciate that info..

Long time no chat, by the way.. retired from the railway nowm after 33 years service.. Was given a nice 14K RR Accutron by the folks I worked with..
On the pocket watch front, my latest is this one, 1921 Burligton(Illinois) 21J..

Hi Harold:

I'm doing alright, but I can't retire yet. I recently saw an AT&SF watch certificate (card) on eBay. It was from the mid-1920s and the watch on it - that was certified for use - was a 19-jewel Burlington Special. So, you can probably take that watch of yours, head on down to the American southwest, and go back to work!

Do not believe it is a Hampden grade 57 (they were OF).

Maybe a Hayward (private label version) or a grade 70.

Obviously very early manufacture - circa 1882

I apologize for not being clear above.

I didn't mean to make it sound as though I thought that Harold's watch is is a No. 57. Harold's watch is a model 2. A different watch, with the same "C.P. Barnes & Bro., Louisville, KY" private label marking is described in the Gold Book as a model 1.
