Does any know first hand if the Sherline 8MM collets will fit a Peerless 8MM lathe? I need a #50 for a Peerless 8MM lathe, but have not been able to locate a source, so was wondering abut the Sherline collets. Thanks

Wayne,

I too am having the problem locating collets
for the Peerless lathe. As I need the sizes equivelant to 3/16 1/4 and 5/16 plus a couple more, I inquired about the collet assortment offered by the suppliers which state they furnish adapters to fit the Sherline. That assortment is exactly what I need. I was told by two house that they would not fit the Peerless. I would even settle for an adjustable chuck mounted on a collet. If you ar successful, would appreciate your letting me know. I am also trying to fit my third steady rest from Larose. Doing a lot of filing etc. May be throwing away 45.oo, but the rest is surely needed. Good luck.

Uncle Larry just listed a 50 & 60 collet. He does have a Peerless lathe listed, so he could check the fit.

Listed 8/1. Let's see how long it lasts.

Added: Well, the 50 sold the first day.

Often I find collets only need some slight filing of the slot to fit. If the Sherline collets are not too expensive, maybe you could try one and see if you can fit it up. The more important issue is the threads. If the threads are not right your draw bar could be damaged. If oversize, you can chase the threads down with the right size die.

Hi Waynea38 and Carroll: I've had a lot of luck locating horological tools at www.dashto.com.If (http://www.dashto.com.If) what you're looking for isn't there this week, it may be next week. He usually has a good sizes list of collets for sale. Happy Hunting!
