View Full Version : CHASING A REPEATER GREMLIN

I thought I had this fixed.

I have a 1/4 repeater that intermittently stops at exactly 10 minutes past 9. Might be my imagination, but it seems to stop more often on the 9:10pm than the 9:10am. (that might be old age.. on my part)

I assumed the root of the problem to be in the repeater function, since that segments time, and could have a problem at a particular hour.

At first I thought the hour snail on top of the star wheel was hitting the 1/4 snail surprise piece. The star wheel moves up and down quite freely on its post, although barely . I believe the tail of the hour snail,(the 1:00 hour), is at an interfering position with the surprise piece, when the repeater is in the 9:10 position.

If I set the watch, dial up, at the 9:00 hour through the 9:10, the watch does not stop. seems in the pendant up the problem occurs.

Pic is not in the 9:00 hour but at least shows the movement. Disregard the numbers and letters as they were a reference for something else.

Thoughts?

Hi
It could be a lot of things, but from looking at your picture, check the hour
snail teeth, one looks bent and may be rubbing.
Good luck
Jim

Will do thanks.

Along your thinking," it could be a lot of things".... One of the first issues I noticed was one of the 3 pan head offset screws, (1,2,3 locations in the photo), that retain the winding rack was missing.

I mored one screw from the #3 location to the #2 location, because I noticed when I pushed to activate the repeater, the hour arm,(A), would at times skip over the top of the hour snail. This may have caused what you sugest. Didn't think of that. Thanks I will check it out.
