Gentlemen, this is a Railway Special C264183 serial number.
This one has a melamine double sunk dial that cracked in a couple of places from the center. Can original ones be gotten and is it possible to find an enameled one for this vintage?
Thanks in advance.

Original melamne dials are available if one looks around... most come off of a watch though....
is this cracked enough to worry with?
any three footed hamilton dial in 16s will fit... being 'correct' is another question though.

afinewatch,
Would you care to post an image of your newly acquired 992B?

afinewatch,
Thanks. Your HG (Heavy Gothic) melamine dial is a No. 121. If you choose to replace the melamine dial with a porcelain enamel, you will need a No. 536.

Thank you for this information. Can you tell me please what would be the best source for the dial ? I doubt sellers on E-Bay would know the part number. Which is the best supplier for pocket watch parts ?

afinewatch,
You can easily acquire an eye for a melamine dial image.
One of the easiest ways to distinguish the difference between a porcelain enamel No. 536 and a melamine No. 121, is the zero at the ten o'clock position on the melamine will have all four corner chopped as shown below.
There are ways to distinguish the difference as well.

I have another 992B as pictured that has a nice enamel dial. Should I swap the dials ? What is your opinion?

WHY??? :?
but it is your watch.....
the 080 dial is correct for certain 992B movements....

The one that has a nice enamel dial is a C number and is in a Defiance case. The one that has a cracked melamine dial is in a nice Hamilton gold filled case. Does not make sense to swap?
