Hi pyrettablaze:

Welcome to the NAWCC Pocket Watch Message Board!

The book Hamilton Hand-Written Serial Numbers No. 1 To 824,700, by Col. George E. Townsend, by Roy Ehrhardt, Heart of America Press (http://www.hoapress.com), Kansas City, MO, 2000 (no longer in print) would be a great help, but unfortunately, I don't have access to it at the moment. Until somebody who does have access gives a more accurate date, there are two other souces available.

In seeking information about a watch, it is the serial number on the movement (the "works") that is important. Basic information about a Hamilton watch may be obtained online using Henry Burgell's Interactive Hamilton Serial Number Lookup Table (http://www.nawcc-ch149.com/db_resch/hamilton_506.html). Since human error may creep in, there may be occasional errors in the results. Oldwatch.com's Hamilton Production Date Chart (http://www.oldwatch.com/Hamiltondate.html), or the PocketWatchSite's Hamilton Date Table (http://www.pocketwatchsite.com/hamiltonserials.html), are also an online means for determining the very approximate production date of Hamilton pocket watches.

These show dates of 1925-1930.

Good luck,

pyrettablaze,
Welcome to the NAWCC pocket watch message board. Hamilton records indicate your 974 pendant set movement was made in 1925.

The records also show that from 1900-1928, there were a total of 218,088 regular and gilt trim 974 pendant set movements made.

The 974 was redesigned abt. 1928 to include adjustments to 3 positions and remarked 974 "Special". There were a total of 9,499, 974 pendant set movments made with the new design from 1928-40.
