View Full Version : Spring Wire
I am working on a Seth Thomas #89 movement, and one of the spring wires broke. I have new spring wire, but I do not know how to make a coil, and put it around the shaft. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi dwq and welcome to the MB!
If I understand correctly, you are wondering how to install a new lever return spring. The wire isn't coiled before installation but is simply wrapped around the arbor. This can be done with the movement assembled using tweezers to thread the wire around the arbor several times before tying it off. Be sure to wrap it so it puts tension on the lever in the proper direction.
Good luck with it and please correct me if I misunderstood your question!
David,
Thank you very much! I did not know the wire should be wrapped directly around the arbor. I was thinking I needed to coil it first.
