The following report from NAWCC President Cowan was received by NAWCC_NEWS, and is posted for your information. You may reply to Mr. Cowan by using the email link below.
Dear Members:This is my second quarterly report of NAWCC project
progress, covering the 4th quarter of 2001. The third quarter summary can
still be found in the December
Mart Newsletter.
Completed Actions:
-The new improved NAWCC Internet eMART has been completed. It is free to
members.
- The Strategy and Governance independant task force (SGAG) reported its
findings and Council has voted to follow up on them. See the Dec.2001
Mart Newsletter for details.
- The School of Horology is financially "in the black" for the
foreseeable future.
- Separate restricted Endowment Funds with "only the interest is
spendable" are in place for the Museum and Library.
- The position of Special Projects Director was upgraded to Marketing
Director, a much
broader responsibility, and in early January an experienced person was
hired to fill the position (Ms. Sandra Partridge).
- Council delayed and then cancelled the $10 fee for membership
reinstatement after 120 days lapsed dues.
- A project to call lapsed members, funded by a Council member, was
terminated due to a very low rejoining rate among those contacted (about
5 % of those called) and no new learnings about reasons for leaving the
NAWCC.
- The Bylaws and Procedures Committee finished the Committee Procedures
Manual. This manual describes the procedures to be followed in conducting
committee business.
-Sound deadeners installed on headquarters' outside refrigerators
successfully reduced the noise to community acceptable levels.
-Electric surge protectors installed on our electrical feed lines
eliminated frequent power outages at headquarters.
Work in Progress.
- The exact rewording of the Museum/Library endowment fund descriptions
is due to be completed and widely communicated in March 2002.
-Council approved the hiring of a Resources Development manager,
recognizing that fundraising through gifts and legacies will be part of
our environment from now on, and that it must be managed professionally.
No candidate has been identified.
- Fundraising was postponed after the Sept. 11 disaster out of respect
for the need of the nation to give to the relief of those victims.
- Work has begun to define the action steps required to progress the SGAG
governance recommendations.
- A task force consisting of Laura Barmore(VA), John Hubby(TX), Fred
Tischler(TX) and David Wood(PA) has been convened to develop a series of
formal agreements between the NAWCC and its Museum/Library, which is a
separate Corporation. These
agreements will address issues of financial support levels,
interdepartmental cooperation and joint resource development.
Respectfully, Doug Cowan, President
