I recently acquired a large, interesting piece of advertising on the South Bend jump hour watches, thanks to Jon Hanson. This piece of advertising really changed some things that we thought we knew about the jump hour watches. It also raised some questions. In the illustration shown below it states "This is an EXACT illustration (enlarged) of the 12 size, 21 jewel, 8 adjustment movement used in the Jump Hour Pocket Watches". Notice that the word Studebaker is missing from the illustration. This was probably some kind of legal issue involving the word Studebaker but since these movements were already completed and sold by the liquidators, I believe most, if not all, had the word Studebaker on the movements. The only reason I say most is because about 15-20 years ago I owned a mail order movement that had the word Studebaker noticeably removed and now I wonder if there was an attempt to remove the word. Has anyone else ever seen one of these movements without the word Studebaker? Please feel free to add anything pertaining to the jump hour watches.
I am not a fan of the jump hour watches since it was not a South Bend Watch Co. product. It is just an interesting novelty.
