Hello,
today I have a question regarding a Keystone pocket watch.
It is keywind and set from the back side. It has the serial number 4611 and is marked Keystone Lancaster PA.
I´m not sure if it is a 18 size movement.
If there are any informations about that movement, I would be happy to know something about it.
Thanks Peter

Keystone was a case manufacturer. The watch inside would be made from a different company. If you could post a picture of the movement and post any writing (it's usually difficult to read from a photo) someone should be able to produce more information. If there is a cover over the movement when the back is open, it should pry open from a slight widening of the join where the dust cover meets the bezel. You may be able to pry it open with your thimbnail, but it will probably require a knife blade. Just be careful not to cut yourself or damage the case. To reduce the risk of damaging the case, when you pry the dustcover roll the knife instead of twisting it or you will mark up the case.

Peter, It was the Lancaster Watch Co; Keystone Watch Co. and then the Hamilton Watch Co. Your watch is most likely an 18s. I think Chapter 149 has a data base for these, or at least someone there can help you with more info.

"Keystone" is the mov't grade; others inc. Fulton, Melrose, Paoli, West End, New Era, Elberon, etc.

Thank you very much for your answers!
OK, I understand that it was made by the Lancaster Watch Company.
From the measured size I would say that it is a 19 size movement.
But I´m not sure. Maybe someone could check the serial number, or does someone
know were I could check it?
The production date would be also very interesting.
Thanks Peter

Hi Peter -
These are a nice early grade of Lancaster and I don't think are too common but I have seen a handful at the 4K serial range and also at somewhat higher serial range. At the low serial number and as a solid quality watch signed "Adjusted" I would definitely consider these more desirable than most of the more common later Lancaster production.
Here is a similar one also signed "Adjusted" I owned at serial #4698, but with some other differences (mainly the regulator) ...

Here is a little higher grade from the same instance of the company.

Thanks Tom! Great watch and for the record most definitely not one of the "more common later production" I mentioned above as less desirable than the Keystone grade.
