I saw a few Landis pocket watches around and wondered who is the maker of these?
The watch movement has on it made in Chicago.it looks like a Illinois though.
Does anyone have information on this company?
Thanks.

i feel certain it was a private label for Illinois Watch company...
it also appears "landis" purchased marked cases also...
i will try to post a well-worn example at a later time.

Terry is right and the ones I've seen have been 16 and 18 size private-labels by Illinois with serial numbers between 1.7 and 2.2 million. There is also a 12 size Illinois "Landis" listed in the Meggers book, but I have not paid close attention for these and can't remember if I've seen one or not.
These watches are usually marked "Landis Watch Co., Chicago" on the movement and "Landis" on the dial and sometimes are found in "Landis Watch Co." signed cases. These movements are sometimes also marked with one word military type names along with the "Landis Watch Co." marking, and the five different miltary type names I've seen on these are ...
Colonel
General
Lieutenant
Major
Captain
... but not all Landis movements had this additional military name marking.
