Very recently while checking over the South Bend watch listings on one of the online auctions I noticed a very disturbing trend. On this day there were 43 listings with various South Bend items. Out of the 43 listings 9 of them involved phony, fake, disgusting, made up dials. Some were dials only and some were on watches. That is over 20% of the listings. What is even more disturbing is these dials are being sold by self proclaimed experts, dealers and collectors. All probably NAWCC members who should know better. In most cases these dials are being called replacement dials but I call them pure garbage.

Another disturbing trend is the number of watches that have sold and been relisted with different dials and /or cases. I count 43 auctions to date this year where this has occured. Switching is rampant and the discards are re auctioned for others to pic through.:bang:

switching has been rampant for years; heck, early Howard switching and reconstructions goes back 20 or more years......including regilding, making of parts, new dust band fakes, screw refinishing, repro hands, overpolishing to remove original engine turning, steel buffing and terrible case repairs, dial refinishing and silk screening, fake winding hole details on curvettes, etc.! :bang:
