Here are a pair of nearly identical early, first-year production 992B's with the small font serial numbers that I recently "re-united." It's been about 66 years since they were together under one roof in Lancaster, PA.

Here is a close-up of the serial numbers.

Larry,
That's a great thing to have twins !

How far apart are the case numbers?

Jim, C1992 is in Model 11 case #1210437 and C1993 is in Model 11 case #1211827. I assume they were not shipped near the same time or the cases were pulled from the stock room at random.

Terry, I can handle the pictures part, but it's my grandson that helped me post them on here!

Larry,

Thanks for posting your Hamilton twins!!! We sure don't get an opportunity to view examples like this very often, but it is always neat when we do!!

Larry,
Thanks for sharing. I really like these low numbers especially when they are twins.:thumb:

I just had to look these up at the NAWCC Library. Both watches were completed on 9/30/40 and sold on 11/5/40, but to different jobbers. So they had been apart for almost exactly 67 years. I don't suppose your reunited them on the 5th of November?

Larry,
Looks like your two movements were included in the very first shipment of 992B's on Nov. 5, 6, 7, 1940. See letter below.

Thanks Don for sharing this document.

Hello Don,

No, but I came real close as I actually bought C1993 on Sunday, Nov. 4th at a chapter meeting. So, it would be true they did spend their 67th anniversary together! I had my C1992 with me and showed it to the seller of the other watch before seeing the second example I was to buy as a result of an earlier phone conversation. He said, "That's just like mine!" I only knew he had that particular serial numbered watch in a Model 11 case and had never actually viewed it or a photo thereof before Sunday.

Thank you very much for the library information on those watches!

Interesting letter:

"Hamilton's new White Elinvar hairspring is introduced for the first time in the 992b"

Sounds like the blue dyed Hairspring did not turn white until the 992b in 1940.

Next to the last sentence

"This movement and dial also available, upon order, fitted in cases used on 992 El."

#10 yes
#2 yes
#8 ???

Great pair of early 992B's and thanks for posting them Larry!

It is always exciting to find consecutive serial numbers and it is neat to see them brought back together after many years separation.

Larry,

Do you have watch pockets on both sides of your overalls? ???

Hi John,

Actually, I think I'll just tape them back-to-back so the correct time will always be right-side-up for viewing! (i) Just kidding, of course!
