Hmmmm--I guess when i read it early today--that would have meant yesterday in the UK.
Anyway--it's up and running again.

Ahh I envy you folks. =) I would love to hear it now that the repairs have been completed. Do you know if the BBC will be doing a piece on the restoration of Big Ben?

Best Regards,

Thomas Carey

Glad to hear the great clock and big ben are back in action. In 1977 I had the opportunity to go into that awsome tower clock. Unfortunately at the time, I was 17 and was much more interested in the young ladies in front of me than a big old clock - Sure wish I could turn back the hands of that clock! Aloha, Rick .:bang:

I have been the tower and stood new Big Ben when it was chiming twelve noon
It was quieter than I thought it would be, it is so open up there that the sound just goes straight past
Incidently Thursday 10th April is the 150th aniversary of the casting of the bell
It was made by Whitechapel Bell foundry, who also made the Liberty Bell
Their website has the whole story

There was a small piece on the news a couple of days ago, and a view of the foundry where Big Ben (the correct name for the hour bell, not the clock) was cast.

Pity we are 200 miles away! It doesn't sound very loud if you are near it, though, as we were a couple of years ago.
We only visit London fairly infrequently, you see.
