Bob,

I have one of these clocks. Every couple of years or so the motor slows down (or even stops). I take out the motor /drive asssembly and clean off the bearings using mineral spirits (brushed into the bearings while turning the rotor). I then dry it off and relubricate the motor bearings, using a light motor oil, and Lubriplate lubricant on the other bearings and worm gear.
Since your motor still turns (although slowly) it is still working, presumably.
To get at the motor rotor end bearing I use a very slim artists brush to get mineral spirits to that bearing area.

Keep on swinging!

Bob,
The motor can be removed from the movement. Hold the movement in one hand and the motor in the other, while pushing together twist the motor (I believe counter clockwise. I am at work and relying on memory as to the direction). There are three lugs on the motor that are keyed into the movement plate with a leaf spring between.

Bob,
You can easily repair your own. By your description it only needs to be cleaned and lubed. Remove the motor from the movement, press the rotor arbor out, clean the sleeve bearings, polish the rotor arbor, relube and reassemble. Clean the movement and relube. Place a dab of lithium grease on the worm drive. Reassemble the motor to the movement. It is not hard to do.

Hi bill,
Thank-you for your help. Do I have to press off the worm drive in order to polish the worm drive arbor?
Thank-You again

Bob,
No, there is no need to remove the worm drive gear unless it is worn and needs to be replaced. I use grey scotch-brite to polish the shaft as it will not remove much metal, if any.
