View Full Version : E. Howard dial ... 4 feet?

I recently picked up an N size double-sunk Arabic numeral "E. Howard & Co., Boston" signed dial with foot positions on the rear at about 11, 24, 36, and 52 minutes.

The style of this dial is I believe similar to what I have seen on split plate movements but I do not actively collect Howard or have much knowledge on Howard dials and movements, so I was wondering which model(s) would have had a dial with 4 feet on the rear?

Thanks!

Fred

Fred,

I recall something about such a dial being discussed in an old Bulletin article by Clint Geller, but I haven't had a chance to look for it yet. Have you checked into any of Clint's Howard articles?

Hi Fred,

I was on vacation and just saw your post. A double sunk dial would definitely have been made with a split plate movement in mind. The dials typically were made with four feet, then one was clipped off, depending on whether it was fitted to a hunting or open face movement.
