Hi I bought this watch and can not find any info on it. I checked out Wayne's site and it list it as a 16s but the watch is a nice chunky 18s the serial number is I46719 and was given to a employee that worked for the Erie RR in 1954. any information would be helpful thanks. Well, the case may be big and chunky, but I can pretty much guarantee you that the watch is actually a 16 size and not an 18 size.

Barry's right... It is a 16 size 571 BW Raymond movement. This is the typical case the watch was factory cased in. It does have the more uncommon Marginal Minute dial.

One has to remember, it is the Movement size that is measured, not the outside of the case to determine the size of the watch. Specifically it is the Dial plate the measurement is taken from.

One other note on these watches. Don't confuse the number of adjustements and the number of adjusted positions. There are only six physical positions, you can think of them as the sides of a cube;
Dial up,
Dial down,
Pendant up,
Pendant right,
Pendant left and
Pendant down
In addition to these positions, watches also could be adjusted to isochronism (the ability to run at the same rate almost wound up as almost wound down), heat and cold. This gives a total of 9 possible adjustments, of which a maximum of six can be to positions.

Jackie:

Factory records are not known to list the last runs of the 571 B.W. Raymond. However, the run that this example is from is estimated to go from I46,001 to I53,000.

The case is Elgin style 3055. This number may, or may not, be stamped inside the back of the case near the Keystone J. Boss trade marks.

There are articles in two Bulletins devoted to the grade 571. October 1995 pages 599-605, and August 1996 pages 484-492.

For additional discussion on the number of adjustments, see What did Elgin mean? (http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002055.html) and Elgin 616 (http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001964.html).
