I didn't know waltham made an 1873 model! How long were they produced? Are they worth adding to the collection? Rob

You can learn about Walthams at http://www.nawcc-info.org/WalthamDB/walsernum.htm

As far as what is worth collecting, there are people who collect string. Whatever floats your boat.

Plenty were made: over 530,000!

I have an 8S, model 73 in a very nice GF hunter case that I bought a number of years ago. I bought it because of its condition (like new), its price (very cheap), and the fact that it is a nice example of an early American Watch Company product.

Bottom line--I acquired it because I liked it, and I wanted it to be an addition to my collection.

Buy what you like--not what people think you should buy.

Actually there are a small number of 1873 models that were the hightlights of the Centennial exposition as art watches. Here is one of them. I think they are pretty collectible by anyone who likes watches.

Yes, I too, have some Centennial watches but they are larger sizes, i.e. 10s/14s/18s US Marions, 16s and 18s Hampdens.

Some are marked on the dial, case and movement.

Some 18s Centennials were reportedly assembled at the expo. but then this might be off topic.

Very historical items no matter what the size.
