Well I did it! I am so mad at myself I could scream. I broke the crystal on my newly purchased Hamilton 992b and now I need a replacement! I have a ton of crystals left over from my Great-grandfathers buisness but I don't know what crystal size I need. Can anyone help me? Rob

here is a starting point....

19 2/16 to 19 5/16

you will have to fit to the specific bezel... but somewhere in that range will work...

it should 'just' snap in place.

measuring and converting is another method .... some others can/will explain...

Thank you very much for the size range! I brought the watch to my local jewler so he could have a look and he said he would have to send it out for a replacement. He said he could get most likely find an original. Is there any difference between an original crystal and a replacement? Rob

Yes, they might well try to put a plastic crystal on it. A railroad grade watch should have a glass crystal. Don't let them slip a plastic crystal past you. When you pick it up, bring a sharp pin. If the pin points grabs the crystal, pop it out and leave.

Installing a crystal is watch 100. If they have to send a watch out to have a crystal installed, do not let them do anything on the watch. Find someone who knows vintage watches.

My family has done buisness with this jewler for 50 years so I know he won't try anything without telling us. He also asked what type I had in the watch an if I wanted glass back in it so there is no problem. Besides I was asking whether or not There is such a thing as an original hamilton crystal except obviously the one they installed from the factory! Rob

Hamilton did not make the cases........ so though they may have had crystals as a material item, they would not be 'factory'....

you should look in your stock first........ a bit of searching will find a line to mm conversion if they are not marked with a sticker......
