This was discussed some time ago and you may find useful information. Do a search of the pocket watch message board for Chronometro and see what comes up.

Good luck,

I would expect an 1883 model Waltham movement, this dial is seen on gilt or nickel movements that are marked with the word "Sol" and the same image of the sun on the movement. While it is possible your movement is something different, this is what I would expect as what you are most likely to find. The sun image is also found on the case of some of these watches.

I believe these watches were export products for the Central or Southern American markets and that the "Sol" name is the Spanish word for "Sun". From watches I've seen the "Sol" was the lower cost Waltham model in the South American export line, the "Cronometro Victoria" was a better grade export, and the "Cronometro Supremo" was a high grade product in this line.

These Cronometro grades are the reason Kent has mentioned to search here for the term "Chronometro". While the spelling I've seen on every one of these watches I've looked at has been "Cronometro" without the H, I have seen the "Chronometro" spelling (with the H) used in the majority of discussions and listings for these watches so it probably is the best idea to include both spellings in any search for these watches.

I am sure your searches here will turn up other discussions, but here is one link to a thread on this board of the Cronometro Victoria and some good discussion of these watches ...

Also here are some images of an 1892 model Waltham "Cronometro Supremo" that has a sun image and "Estrella" marking in the rear of its case ...
