I recently pulled out a key wind pocket watch which I forgot I had. It looks unremarkable, but I am curious about it's history. The only markings it has aside from numbers are Franklin and New York. It also says Silveroid on the inside of the outer back cover. I have tried researching this (though not extensively) and have found nothing. It came from my grandfathers collection and was probably traded into his store for a new one. He was a jeweler and watchmaker in Reading, PA. I took a photo of it next to my Hamilton model 23 for size comparison.
Any ideas on it's manufacture and vintage? It is in decent shape (except for mark under the 9 on face) and keeps great time.

At a quick first glance and the watch looks similar to a Waltham 1877, 1879 or 1883, but I'll guess a Swiss "fake".

It's a 7J Waltham model 1877, manufactured around 1879

Thank you for the information. One more question. What is the signifigance of the name Franklin? Was it a model designation or where it was purchased?
