How many NAWCC members would be in favor of an "Exclusive" Hamilton 992B Forum?
This forum would be dedicated to Hamilton 992B only and would provide members and visitors with all types of information about the 992B, such as, introduction information, factory cases, dials, movement signatures, movement changes, catalog and price lists, and the list goes on and on.
We have several Hamilton experts who can answer most if not all of your questions about the 992B.
All of this information will be located in this exclusive forum.
If you are in favor of and would like to have this exclusive forum on this message board, please express your support right here.
Best regards,

absolutely!
Why does the information have to be located separately from the main Pocket Watch forum?

Kent,
My main goal is to preserve all the information that we can possibly accumulate about one of the most sought after and collected "Railroad Watch".
IMHO, an exclusive forum would allow all of this information to be stored at a common location and not scattered through out the pocket watch forum.
I believe this proposal deserves a trial run and if successful, other exclusives could be added if agreeable with management.

It would be great! The larger the volume of readily available info the better. Those of us relatively new to 'educated' collecting will find it a great asset.

I like the idea of focused organization that is easily browsable and searchable, but is limiting a forum to just the one grade maybe too tight a category?
The 992B discussions are great ... but the 936, 940, and 992 are also grades with a lot of significance to RR watch collectors and might also be just as deserving. Would a "Hamilton" forum be too broad?
I really think this is a good discussion and I am interested to hear what ideas are out there. If something is to come I think it is best to hear viewpoints and opinions in advance to consider what direction would be best.

Thank you Fred,
It appears there is not an overwhelming support for the 992B forum, so if the "exclusive" is expanded to include the 936, 940, 992, and 992E,, as Fred suggested, how many members would support this arrangement?
I will be the first to vote yes.
Any forum is only as successful as its contributors, so please post your thoughts and opinions about this new proposal.
Best regards,
Robert

If the feeling it the 992B is too narrow a category, three other possible levels getting less narrow would be ... 1) A handful of grades, as Robert just posted or perhaps with a few others included
2) Hamilton RR Grade Watches
3) Hamilton Pocket Watches
I think the first one might not be as good as the second, because it would be an arbitrary line which grades are covered and which aren't. I think the 936, 940, 992, and 992E could cover some great threads ... but thinking more about it the 950-950E-950B series and 946 would be big ones also ... but then there are the HC grades, the 972, the 954, etc.
So if a broader forum is preferred maybe the better choice would be between either only RR grade Hamilton or including all Hamilton?

I think a 992B forum is a great idea because almost 1/4 of a million were produced and they are a quality RR grade watch.
Also, the regular 992 was a quality RR grade model with over 1/2 a million produced.
I believe that a HAMILTON category would serve all our needs because of so many interesting watches.
I don't know how difficult it would be to set up sub-categories under pocket watches for the major companies if the interest was there.

Well, we are definitely on to something here in my opinion. Specialization is what it's all about, I would think and I am all for setting up a specialized section for each of the major brands ( i.e. Hamilton, Illinois, Howard, etc. ) for that matter. It does make a lot of sense to feed peoples specific interests.
Again, people want to read, learn, share and contribute to what they are interested in and therein lies their passion! There are enough experts here on each watch manufacturer I would think , that a GREAT DEAL of reading traffic could be generated from the entire world. It could prove very interesting reading what the experts have to say in these formats and possible information only they can provide. The more information we provide, the greater the collector interest and the better for the hobby, Nawcc membership growth , retention and participation.
How many times in the last few decades have we let knowledgeable folk who once worked in these great watch factories that could have answered a multitude of questions for us, die off without an interview?.....In the same vein, let's not let some of the most knowledgeable people on the planet pass on without sharing their "pearls of wisdom" that sometimes only a handful of people know.
Let's let the real experts, who have been researching for decades and have so much to share, write some fresh and facinating info we all want to read. This specialized section or sections idealistically can be a place that is cutting edge and should go beyond the boring rehash and guesswork from some opinionated "johnny come lately". It is time to make this board the "special" place it is meant to be and should be with the primary motivation being about sharing quality information, provided by true experts for the good of the entire membership . After all, if we don't do it, .....who then?

Robert,
I would like to see an exclusive of the 992B's and also what happened to the Hamilton boxed set threads on the crossbar to the Model #17 when the change over occured? It took me a while to get back on board.

Hello Weldon,
I'm not sure when a decision will be made on the new forum. Hopefully, the new administrator will take swift action when appointed.

Mike Chamelin (and others) have it right.
Sooner the better. Any word on who is going to tak Jeff Hamiltons place?
I do not live far from Jeff H and will volunteer to go up there with a gang of thugs and force him out of retirement!

I agree with Mike Chamelin 100 per cent. I'm sure their are many people out there, who would share information with this type forum. The use of this NAWCC Message Board could be the spring board to share all that information with the world. Why can't it be done ?

I would not be interested in a forum that is exclusive to 992B. I would prefer a Hamilton RR watch forum. I am more interested in 950B, 992, 940, and 946.

The message board supports sub forums that would work to keep the information together and visible.
There is also tagging available that would ensure that the threads all sorted together when searching.
Either one of those would probably be better than a new top level forum.
Eventually you get so many top level forums that all the forums sink down. We already have a bit of that here with the sticky topics depressing the new material quite a way down the screen.
