Hi Fellow Clockers,
I would like to introduce myself and make a few comments. I have been given the privilege of moderator for the Clocks and Clock Repair Forums by
Message Board Administrator Jeff Hamilton. I have known Jeff for at least 8 years and are members of same chapter. We owe a lot of thanks to the effort he has put into this message board to get it up and running. I know he has put in many 20 hour days in the last few days to iron out all the problems during the change over. I attended N. Bennet St Industrial School in Boston for clock repair back in the mid 60's. Did part time repair until about 3 years ago when I retired early to work full time with twice the hours and half the pay but enjoying it. I service pocket watches and all clocks including electrics, 400 day, and cuckoo, (you can stop laughing now) I enjoy them all. My business is The Hands of Time and web site is www.clocktools.com. I sell the books written by W.R.(Bill) Smith and John Wilding. I have a 16' X 32" shop next to my house. Pics are on my web site of the shop if anyone is interested. It is more cluttered than when these pics were taken. I am available to help anyone and answer questions if I can. I belong to all the clock forums and several online chapter forums. I have been mostly a lurker but hope to get more involved in the forums. One thing I ask of all posters is lets keep you comments civil and no berating anyone. Life is too short.
Cheers, Jerry
:)

Welcome, Jerry! I hope we don't cause you any real problems :) I just have to jab you a bit about your shop! If those are the real dimensions, it's pretty narrow, don't you think? :D

Great to have you here Jerry.Let me be the first to offer you some sympathy in your endeavors to keep this bunch of rogues in line.:)
In all seriousness though it's great to have a dirty hands guy as our moderator.Your input can be nothing but valuable to all the folks who inhabit this message board and a great bunch they are. We'll certainly try to make your tour of duty as moderator a pleasant one and we'll really, really try hard to conduct ourselves properly. No promises though.

Hey Jerry - help! I see references to pictures in JPG format, but they do not show up for me. All of the others seem to be OK. I have several jpg files that I can look at, so it's not lack of a viewer. What do I need to do to see these images? THANKS!

click here (http://www.nawcc-mb.com/bbv2/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=14;gtid=211664)
Try the above link. If it will open, the first post has a picture. It's one I can't view. Thanks for the help! (2nd edit, trying to make the link work :0) )

I tried the link and the pic in the first post loaded but was a little slow.
If you have a dial up connection it may take a while to load. The file size is
703KB and it is a BMP file not a JPG. Make sure you can view BMP files.

Hmmm! This is how it comes up on my screen : SesMot.jpg
Every time I see the .jpg ending, I can't open it. I'm using cable, so it is not a speed problem. XP includes the BMP reader, but I don't know why it shows as a BMP on your side and a JPG on mine. Any help will be appreciated!!

The picture shows up as a jpeg to me.
What if you right click it and select view picture?
What browser are you using?

I thought of that too, but it won't even recognize that it's a picture! It will show location, but not in a way that it could be copied and pasted (not a url or even site reference). Most pictures come right up for me, so I wonder if it has to do with uploading from the PC rather than a posting site? My guess is that it involves the new board, because the old one didn't have this issue. I'm using Firefox, and have Java capabilities turned on. All I get on screen is the file name and extender.

Do you have a "Tools" category on your toolbar? Do you have an "Image manager" there? Are you blocking images from any sites?

Hi Jerry,
I thought I'd sit back for a while and see how some of the guys and gals responded to your introduction. You'll have to admit some of the welcomes have been a little interesting! In the event that you haven't noticed (and if you haven't, you've got some serious problems!!), we have quite a diversity of of individuals, but be advised, we all have a few screws loose!!!!
Seriously, I'm sure by now you realize that there is a fabulous group here on the MB.
Some of these individuals are extremely intelligent and knowledgeable in several areas. Then you've got me (You lucky thing!!). I'm just a plain 'ol small city guy trying to learn what some of these worldly characters are conveying on their threads. Jerry they're a fine group. Sometimes we might seem to get a little carried away with a topic and you'll wonder when we'll start visiting one another to have a duel or whatever. I think all of us realize there is absolutely no malicious intent meant in any discussions. Some of them can get pretty interesting and that helps us all to learn by seeing the views (often opposing) of a whole cross section of great people.
If you need help from anyone, just ask. Anyone I know on the MB will be glad to help.
Welcome aboard. I look forward to a long and interesting view of you philosophy of clock repair.

Now, Let's git clockin'!!

This is for anyone else having the problem I was encountering! I found out that my firewall (McAfee) was blocking the jpg pictures, assuming they were pop up advertising. When I unclicked the "block pop ups" I was able to see the photo's.
