I am currently working on a New Haven round movement. The mainsprings are in cups. It appears to me that there is too much spring in the cup. I have attached a picture of the spring in the cup. This spring is "set" and should be replaced but I need to know if the length is correct.
Thanks for looking.

The amount of spring looks ok to me.
Old S. LaRose catalogs have mainsprings listed by manufacturers, model#, and movement type.
You give no info to go by, 1 day 8 day, Time or strike spring, what are the dimentions of the old springs?

Sorry I did not give more information in my first post.
The clock is a New Haven T/S with a round movement. The only name I can find is on the dial. It appears to be from the late 20s or 30s. I checked the old spring and it is 3/4 X .018 X 90 inches. The LaRose book calls for .014 thickness. I would think that would explain the crowding in the cup. The picture I provided was the strike spring which appears to be correct (3/4 X .012 X 90) I had already removed the broken spring from the time cup.
I have ordered the proper spring which should solve my problem.
Thanks for the reply,
Joe
