I just picked this one up. Interesting enough, but I can't figure out how it is supposed to work. There apparently is no mainspring, and when I depress the spring-loaded button or crown, the hand does not advance or move at all. I haven't disassembled this yet, as I was hoping for an idea on how it operates before i go any further!

Thanks,

Thanks Jim;

But the question still remains: How does the darn thing work?!

When hung on a walker's belt the horizontal pendulum bobs up and down with his stride. Each "bob" of the pendulum advances the hand. The eccentric wheel above the pendulum can be adjusted according to your stride so that the dial measures the distance walked in miles or kilometers (or something similar). There is no mainspring as it is the bobbing of the pendulum that drives the mechanism.

The button on top is to reset the hand to zero.

Thanks Jerry;

I had an epiphany just before I read your post, and figured that's how it worked. I'm going to clip it to my belt tomorrow and see just how many miles I put on going up and down those stairs! (My shop is in the basement).

Cheers!
