I have an American Waltham Watch Co. Ser.#14111048, 17 Jewels, Adjusted, safty pinion, guilded full plate, inside threaded back & bezel. The dial is gold in color (guiled)?, with ingraving of a peacock, church, etc. My questions are what model movement is this, and is this dial an original factory or added later. Any information will be greatly apprecited.
Thanks, Dave T.http://www.http://www.kirxklox.com/images/product/MVC-244F.JPG http://www.kirxklox.com/images/product/MVC-245F.JPG kirxklox.com/images/productMVC-243F.JPG

Nope, probably by someone who wanted a fancy type dial, lacked one or wanted to "make" something different!
Appears to be a Swiss, possibly English dial--remove the dial and look at the feet, or the lack thereof.

Your watch is an 18 size, Model 83, Grade 85.
A proper period dial for your watch could be one like this.

Thanks John & Steven. I did't think the dial was correct even though it is kind of neat. I'm not sure why the close-up picture of the dial did not work. I'll have to look for a correct dial now.
Thanks again,
Dave T.

I have actually seen several Walthams with dials like this. I wonder if they weren't put on movements after exportation to England so as to suit the English tastes?

I have one of these - a 16S Waltham with a very fancy multi-colored dial in a (sort of) matching multi-color gold case.
On mine, the dial was "made" by afixing the copper palte and feet fo a Waltham dial to an English multi-colored gold dial. The result is no thicker than the original Waltham dial was when it had enamel on it, so there's no problem with the length of the acannon pinion.
I've always assumed that whoever did this used a badly damaged dial and stripped the enamel off it to obtain a copper disk with feet attached. I sort of applaude the workmanship of the resulting dial, even though it's not original (my wife likes it a lot, though).
