Kathy Pritchard died last week. Kathy was the author of "Swiss Timepiece Makers 1775-1975". This two volume 1800 page book contains most of what we know about Swiss watches. Kathy was working on an update to her book. She added a third volume. I was happy to hear that she finished it and it will be published.
She was also a NAWCC volunteer. At least once a week she drove from Washington DC to Columbia PA to act as a researcher at the NAWCC Library and Research Center. She did this rain or shine, well or sick. She was in her 80s and was a diabetic and had a heart pacer. She was very competative. She usually volunteered on Wednesdays. I work on Fridays. She took great pride in answering all the watch questions before I could get to them. She made Katherine Hepburn look like a wimp.
Now I am the only watch research volunteer left. If anyone would like to join me, it is great fun. You get to learn a great deal about watches by searching for answers to members' questions. You have perhaps the best horological library to help you. If you live anywhere near Columbia, PA, give it a thought.
