Dear Members,

It is with sadness that I announce the death today, Sunday, April 24, 2005, of NAWCC Past President J. W. 'Bill' Simmons of Eagle Rock, Virginia. Bill served as NAWCC President from 1979 to 1981 and later served as a Museum Trustee.

Bill is survived by his wife Myrtie, son Mike and daughter Pam.

Bill was diagnosed with ALS-Lou Gehrig's Disease approximately ten years ago and has been in declining health since that time. Last Sunday, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and other complications.

Until his condition prevented travel, Bill and Myrtie were active in their home chapter, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia Chapter No. 32, and the Mid-Eastern Regional circuit.

Bill's interest in collecting clocks and watches began at an early age. Before his retirement, Bill was involved in the family businesses - a Chevrolet dealership, and the Eagle Rock Funeral Home. Many who knew him still chuckle over his business card with the byline - Cars, Clocks and Coffins.

On a personal note, I first met Bill and Myrtie in 1969 at the Mid-Eastern Regional in Charlottesville, Virginia (my third NAWCC function). Bill and Myrtie have remained dear friends since. Bill was a mentor, providing guidance and encouragement through my progression within NAWCC.

Visitation is at the Eagle Rock Chapel of the Botetourt Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Baptist Church in Eagle Rock on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m.

On behalf of the NAWCC Board of Directors, the Staff, and the Membership, our deepest sympathies are extended to Myrtie, Mike and Pam.
