Over the last year, I have been building a collection of premium 16s OF railroad watches which now includes:
Hamilton 950
Sangamo Special Model 13
Elgin 540
Waltham Vanguard 23J Up/Down
Hampdon 105
Ball Hamilton 999 23J
South Bend 227
Howard Series 0

I'd like to expand my collection to include examples of premium 16s Canadian railroad watches.
I have in mind:
Zenith RR Extra
Longines Express Monarch
Omega 19 Calibre

Are these appropiate watches for my collection?
Can anyone recommend a source of info on watches used in Canadian rail service?

Fred:

You've picked some nice watches to add to your collection. For the Omega/Brandt, I'd suggest the DDR grade.

For information, I gather that you've seen the various Railroaders' Corner columns on the Swiss watches. In addition, try two periodicals:

Iain Cleator, A. Ron D'Altroy and Les Hesketh, "Waltham's Canadian Railroad Watches," NAWCC Bulletin No. 244, (October 1986): pp. 355-9

Fred Angus, "Railroad Pocket Watches In Canada," Canadian Rail No. 343 (August 1980): pp. 228-48.

Good luck,
Kent

Hi Fred..
The Zenith is definitely appropriate, but could be hard to find. I've only seen one, and thats mine. This one was CP issue and can be seen at: http://members.home.net/hac/zenith/zenith.htm
