I was doing some research unrelated to watches and was at the web site for New York State Department of State, Division of Corporations. I was poking around and decided to type in some names of watch companies and was surprised to discover a wealth of information.
For example The New York Watch Company, which I assume is better known as the "New York Standard Watch Company" filed on 03/04/1895 in the County of New York. Jurisdiction is given as New Jersey and according to the site the company is still active. Contact is given as David S. Ritterbrand, 206 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10038.
I also found information on RIMA and other watch companies.

Walter,

The "New York Watch Company" was an early incarnation of the Hampden Watch Company, but its dates don't seem to match the ones you found. According to my references, the "New York Watch Company" existed from 1866 to 1876, and was originally located in Rhode Island, before moving to Springfield, Mass.

The "New York Standard Watch Company" was located in Jersey City, NJ, from 1885 to 1929, and doesn't seem to be a likely candidate for the company whose record you found. Two other possibilities that seem equally unlikely are the "New York City Watch Company," which operated from 1890 to 1897, and the "New York Chronograph Watch Company," which operated from 1880 to 1885.

In short, I have no idea what company you've found, but it's interesting…..
