View Full Version : New memberhip, nice watch
Just wanted to share some news, and thank the many people who have helped me to this point with my many questions. Received two nice things in today's mail. Got my membership kit from the NAWCC, and a watch back from Mike Kenley of Chapter 149 that I had sent to him to look at. Awhile back I had picked up this very fine Elgin Model 1 Hunter, Grade 94 that just wouldn't keep running for more than a few seconds. I had been referred to Mike by Jon Hanson and sent it along. He opened it up, determined that it just needed a clean and lube and wouldn't even take any money for it. Don't know how he makes a living that way, but I "forced" a small token of my appreciation on him for his time and efforts. Thanks Mike!
As I said I've received some great help, advice and even literature, not to mention many off-line conversations with a lot of people on this Forum. You all know who you are, and I'd just like to say thank you for taking the time to welcome a newbie and help me begin what I hope to be a long and enjoyable hobby.
Best Regards,

Welcome aboard Tref. It is good to see this venue work to bring people to the hobby and the helpful folk of the NAWCC.
Thank you Tom. I just wish I had the time and funds to travel more and take in some of these great shows. I'm way up here in the PNW, and have too much on my plate to take much time away from work and family. Maybe when I get to retire and have my shot at living that American Dream of traveling to and fro ;o).

Tref,
Welcome!
Go to the NAWCC map (http://24.104.50.30/ChapterMap/ChapterMap.htm#) and click on Washington. Chapter 50, Puget Sound, 53, Inland Empire, and 135, Mt. Rainier. And if you live far enough north, there's 121 in Vancouver, B. C. Check out Idaho and Oregon while you're at it. And now you are eligible to join 149 (Early American), and 185 (***) which are on line via the Message Board. With luck you might be able to become active in one of the chapters in the PNW. And remember the PNW Regional which will be in Kent, WA, in May of 2006.

Tref,
Glad to help out a fellow member as one of my main objectives was to get you to join. Glad to have you.
Yes, Oui, Ja, Da, Si, etc., etc., Welcome aboard!
Don't overlook the fact that you can borrow video tapes, DVDs, back issues of the Bulletin and books by mail from the NAWCC Library & Research Center (http://www.nawcc.org/Library/library.htm).
Hi Kent,
With folks like you,Doug, Tom, Mike and so many others around, whose interest and experience in horology far outshines my own I don't think I'll have to worry about missing out on the resources that are here.
The packet that came also include information about free family admission to about 250 different places, one of which is right here in my neck of the woods. My kids will be happy to learn that.
How did you enjoy the show? Find any jewels out there to add to your collection?
Regards,
Tref
Well ......
....... I did get an upper center jewel for a 1920s era Elgin.
Well maybe not a diamond in the rough, but at least it fit in your carry on! Must have been fun though being around all of those beautiful and rare watches.
Regards,
Tref
