I have several 16 size Elgin movements with
rust on the exposed surface. What's the
best way to restore these surfaces so they
don't look so unsightly? Thanks from....

For small rust spots I have found that I can remove most of the rust from steel parts, without scratching the good steel, by using a pointed scraper I made from an aluminum rod. Then a soft cloth or a dab with kneaded rubber removes the aluminum scraping and loose rust. You may still have pitting, but it looks a lot better and should prevent the rust from spreading.
