Where have the tower clock lovers gone?

The NAWCC has a special interest chapter for tower clock enthusiasts -- chapter 134. According to our most recent newsletter, we are down to 54 members. Two years ago, we had 145 members. Where have you all gone? Surely there must be more than 54 enthusiasts out of 29,000 NAWCC members!

Tower clocks are exciting and also represent part of the history of many communities around the nation and around the world. Restoration of a community's clock is also rewarding. Collecting tower clocks is a little difficult if space is at a premium, but I currently have four, including two three-train quarter-strikers in my living room.

I invite you to join the tower clock chapter by sending $10 for annual dues to:
Robert Hoddy, Treasurer
7635 E. Avalon Dr.
Scottsdale, AZ 85251-6502

Membership provides you with several newsletters annually that contain articles written by members about interesting tower clocks thay have viewed, restored, or collected. We also have three meetings per year. The next one is at the Southern Ohio regional. The other two are at the Syracuse regional and at the national convention. Give us a try!

Frank,

In addition to the contact information you've provided, an email address of someone in the Chapter who could provide more information might also prove very helpful to prospective new members.

Or, you're free to expound on the topic right here, too. And, by the way, that must be some crowded living room of yours. How does the Mrs feel about that?

Gene:

Robert Hoddy's email address is fireftr-ret@netzero.net Or anyone can ask me questions as well.

My living room isn't too crowded (yet). It's 28' x 18'. I expect to get a few more in there before it's all over. The Mrs. seems to be fine about it. I build nice wood stands to put them on. They all have one meter pendulums so I don't have to do anything drastic like cutting holes in the floor. (I know of at least one member who has done that.) My wife complains only if the color of the clock doesn't "go" with the decor. I have a third clock, time only, that I painted a medium green (to reproduce the original color). She doesn't think it "goes" with the decor so I don't get to put that one in the room. The two in there now are hunter green and an indescribable blue-green that she loves.

Best regards,
Frank Del Greco

As we know "joining" is not what it used to be. The decline probably is not "a decline in interest in tower clocks" just a decline in "compelling reasons" to join a club/chapter.
One of the initial hopes of the change to UBB software (the first generation) was to get special interest chapters involved on the MB. This is an opportunity to promote those little known and specialty areas of interest . Fellow travelers may be geographically isolated but can sharing their common interests here and share their knowledge. Such resources could be an excellent public education resource for identification, preservation and documentation should anyone seize the opportunity.

From Milwaukee, tower clock capitol of the US.
(Better duck for cover on that one............)
