The symptom describes a mainspring that's running low on power at the end of the winding cycle. (guessing it's a Style F and winds hourly)

You may opt to give the mainspring an additional turn of pre-load by removing the center arbor and mainspring assembly carefully and holding the two gears to prevent the spring from unwinding; then remove the "knock-away" piece and add one turn and replace the "knock-away" piece and reinstall.

However, the symptom may be excess wear on the bushings and pivots causing the train to want more power.

As long as you have the movement out of the case, take a look at the bushing to pivot clearances. Rebush if necessary after refacing the pivot or pivots. If you don't do anything else after taking the second and 'scape wheels out, by all means, burnish those pivots. There's nothing simpler that you can do to make any clock run better.

'Best of the holiday season to all.
