12 August 2006 marks a BIG day in one young man's life.

Chapter 17 member Matt Haldeman of Mocksville NC will Graduate from the Lititz Technicum in Lititz PA.

For those of you that do not know the institution, this is a Premier Horological School.

Click for their Web site... http://www.lititzwatchtechnicum.org/

Matt's quest in this endeavor started quite a few years ago.
Matt was home schooled, and apprenticed with Chapter 17 member and mentor Charles Smith.

I remember Charles and others taking Matt to the Mid Eastern Regional at Gaitherberg MD for him to "meet" the 'principals' of this institution.

Through a TOUGH competition for a place in the school, Matt was accepted to the Lititz Technicum as a 'youngster', not quite 18 years old. He was awarded one of the (i believe) Twelve seats offered in the school.

Chapter 17 generously supported Matt, who was the receipent of a scholarship from the Bill Fox Memorial Scholarship fund. As a requirement, Matt was required to demonstrate his performance at the school. He exceled in his studies, and also worked to help support himself there.

When you look at the Lititz web site, It is my understanding the wrist watch in the image circulation is Matt's work.

Now Matt is to graduate from Lititz, giving the Valedictorian Address.

This young, level-headed man was also rewarded the Prestigous Rolex Scholarship. He will work at Lititz after graduation and receive additional training in New York and Switzerland.

I hope you will join me in extending CONGRATULATIONS to Matt for his accomplishments.

I know for a FACT that many are happy and Proud of Matt and of his accomplishments.

The world is open for you... Good Luck my young friend.

Please add my congratulations to the others for young Matt. That is truly an accomplishment for which to be proud!

Our chapter (DC #12) had the opportunity to visit the Technicum several years ago and we found ourselves envious of all that it offered it's students in the way of instruction, facilities, tools and especially the work environment. A first class operation which convinced me that my workshop was in need of, at the very least, a major cleanup if not a major upgrade.

Well done, Matt
