Dear Marion collectors (are there many left?), early American specialists, book lovers, and interested parties,

I am continually working on updating my serial number list which was published by Roy Ehrhardt some years ago. If anyone out there in "watchland" has any new finds, emissions, or errors that they would like to bring to my attention, I would appreciate hearing from you.

In this day of "high prices" for goods, U. S. Marion watches offer an excellent opportunity to collect, hunt and study. The nawcc is currently offering a good background book on the subject for just $15.60 (why?) to members. This hard cover books was published at $35.00; heck, the fantastic colored dust jacket is worth the price of admission! I consider this book to be one of the very best buys in American horology today. (Of course, I can't guarantee that the cash starved nawcc won't reduce it again, but a lousy $15.oo?; this is NOTHING-no comments, Louis C.)

Anyway, these watches have many avenues re collecting: different sizes, jewelling, finish, damasceening, engraving, grades, fancy dials, mechanisms, sexy cases, etc., etc.; plus, all of the historical aspects of the people behind the company and the schemes they played.

Buy the book, you will not be disappointed!

I have bought the book, and as Jon suggests it is just too cheap to pass on. I second his recommendation. Even when you factor in tax and shipping, the book still runs $13 less than the cover price! Such a deal! You'd be foolish to pass on this one.

In fact, Jon, maybe we should buy up all the remaining copies from the gift shop and corner the market.

Having read the Muir and Kraus book on Marion, USWC, I have become very intriqued with the early watches made by that company. Particularily the damaskeening, which was extremely attractive and different on every example produced (so the book says) I have plans to aquire a few examples in the not so distant future if at all possible and have been watching fleabay, yahoo and am keeping my eyes and ears open. Is the book the NAWCC has for sale a different book than the one I have read? If so I would be very interested in it!

BUT, everyone needs the book I did for Roy Ehrhardt-this is the one that lists known examples. It is a different book and a companion one that needs to owned by serious collectors.

What book is that Jon and where can I get it?

Jon is referring to the Marion Book from Heart of America Press http://www.hoapress.com/pwdesc.htm#APWE3

It provides a listing of serial numbers by grade and much additional information.

???

Yes, you are correct-I can't even find it myself. Greg Davis knows how to do it-GREG ARE YOU READING THIS?

I don't believe that the nawcc sells the Ehrhardt books; maybe they should. I don't have any extra copies of my Marion book-it would have been nice for Roy to have given me a stack for my efforts of several decades! http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Please use Tom's link for Roy's book or call the nawcc to buy the other Marion book.

Any new numbers can be sent to me.

When last I looked the Marion book could not be found on the web site. You actually have to phone them and ask a human being to locate the book in a physical place in the brick and mortar store. How achingly archaic.

Is my post above invisible? It contains the link to the specific page on Roy's website that describes the book and itself contains the link to order it. http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/confused.gif

Here it is again. Click on the line below to get Encyclopedia Vol 3, Marion.
